San Diego 2013: Part 3

Saturday: Before Great Grandma and Great Grandpa left we needed to do a little photo shoot with all the kids.

All the grandkids in one place.

all the grandkids #2

Eli's nasty tooth. We even offered him up to $11 to pull it out, and he still left it. Ok, in hindsight maybe $11 isn't really that much.

Tooth and all, he is such a cutie!

Maddox, going with the flow.

San Diego 2013: Part 2

This year the sleeping arrangements were a lot more comfortable, I think mostly because the kids are a little older. We have ingrained into them the importance of being quiet in the morning so that those not used to kids are still able to sleep. Though, I did miss the twins jumping on me in the morning saying, "wakeup." They are so cute!

Thursday: The kids played and then we packed up lunch and went to La Jolla Shores. Again, parking was a nightmare. We must've had bad luck because everyone else found parking okay. The beach was crowded but the weather was sunny and nice. We lost Adam and then we found him. We saw Andrew's smooth skills with the ladies firsthand. (Basically a cute girl was handing out free samples of larabars and before she even had a chance to say they were free, Andrew put his hand up and said, "We're good." When we explained they were free, he took some and didn't say anything else to the girl even though she was clearly hanging around smiling waiting for an apology. She never got it.) A lot of questions were answered, as to why Andrew doesn't have a girlfriend...haha.

After La Jolla Shores, we came home, showered and ate delicious homemade enchiladas. Julianna and Allan came with Maddox and Cuni on Thursday night.

A sad scared Adam and Rebecca consoling him. So sweet!

Friday: We went on a jog to the waterfall at San Penasquitos Canyon. It was super hot and sunny the whole way. The kids were good sports. We got Chick-fil-A and In n Out on the way home. We packed up for the beach and went to Torrey Pines North where we surfed, boogie boarded, and played soccer on the beach. We came home, showered, and then had dinner at Souplantation. The kids loved it! I guess we don't go to buffets enough. After we put the kids to bed, we had a very short, sad game of things. Everyone was just too tired to care.

San Diego 2013: Part 1

We had so much fun in San Diego last week. For the sake of journaling and memory here is what we did.

Tuesday July 23rd: our flight was supposed to leave at 8:20 pm but got delayed to 10:05. It worked out well because we were able to eat dinner and clean the house before we left. The Shavers arrived in San Diego in the afternoon. We were tired when we got in but still ended up staying up til 2 am talking and catching up.

Wednesday: The kids were so excited to see eachother. They played all morning. We had breakfast and lunch then headed to La Jolla. After looking for parking for about 40 minutes we finally just paid for parking (we shoulda done that in the first place). We took a tour of the cave and the girls bought souvenirs: Isabella, a starfish, Daisy, a piece of agate, and Annalisa, a postcard. After the cave, we went snorkeling in the cove. Daisy rode on Grandpa's back. She saw "a catfish and a silver angel fish." Annalisa snorkeled in the shallow water with just her goggles and she saw "some little regular fish." After La Jolla we showered then went to dinner in old town with Grandma Jean and Grandpa Ralph. It was crazy busy for a Wednesday night. After dinner, Grandma Carol let the kids each pick out 10 pieces of candy from the candy shop. Their eyes got big looking at the barrels and barrels of saltwater taffy, trying to decide which they were going to choose. It all looked like leftover Halloween candy to me, but kids aren't picky, candy is candy. We got back to Grandma's, put the kids to bed and then stayed up watching funny youtube videos (I pinned them to my "so funny" board on pinterest). Family is when you all have the same sense of humor.

Annalisa was so excited to give this doll to baby Noelle who probably doesn't
have very many girl toys.

Down in the cave.

Isabella and Grandma.

I got to ride in the backseat with the girls on the way to dinner.

what is up with Daisy's crazy faces!

Wow! Look how full Jonah's basket is...haha

Great grandma let all the kids pick out a pinwheel.

July 17: Daisy's arm got stuck in the piano

That is correct...Daisy's arm did indeed get stuck in the piano. Apparently some littlest pet shop toys fell into the piano. Daisy opened the lid of the piano about 45 degrees so she could fit her arm into the piano to reach the toys. Somehow she jammed her arm in and couldn't get it back out.

These are the pictures I sent to Kwan, trying to figure out what to do.

There was pressure upward onto her arm from the lid and pressure downward onto her arm from the top part of the piano.

I unscrewed the lid. Kwan said to pour oil on her arm to get it lubricated enough to come back out. It was such a tight squeeze that the oil couldn't immediately get underneath. I called my mom and she said we may need to call the fire department. Even though I was emotional while talking to my mom, I knew everything would be okay with her arm, I was more concerned about how scared and nervous Daisy was.

The plan: Kwan was going to come home from work to help and then if he couldn't get it out then we would call the fire department.

My concern was I didn't want to hurt her arm in the process of trying to pull it out. About an hour and a half later, while consoling Annalisa in another room, Daisy yelled out, "I got it!" The oil finally started to reach her arm and she got the guts to wriggle it around even if it hurt. We didn't have to call 911 and Kwan turned around to go back to work.

Lesson learned: Don't stick your arm into the piano.

The mark it left. Afterwards she only had a small bruise.

Tools used.

Daisy and her sisters (and I) were very relieved that her arm was out safely.

Chick-fil-a and Annalisa's style

I am trying to keep my goal of posting on the blog every few days. It's probably been more than a few days since Friday, but oh well, it is a pretty non specific goal. The reality is we haven't been doing much but relaxing and enjoying our break from school and other commitments. Poor Kwan has been pretty jealous at all the sleeping in that's been going on.

On Friday night we went to Chick-fil-A with some friends for dress-up-like-a-cow-and-get-free-food-day. Who knew?! I didn't. In fact I thought just little kids did it for the free kids meal. Boy was I wrong! Daisy decided to wear an old vest from a cowgirl Halloween costume from a long time ago. So she was the only one that got a free meal. I so wanted to take pictures, the cow outfits were just ridiculous, some in a very bad way, ridiculous. But hey, who am I to judge? As one older man said to me, "Ya'll must not like free food." I do like free food. So we will see next year if we will participate. I am still on the fence. After seeing most of the outfits shamelessly scotched tape with chunks of black construction paper because it didn't look like they owned a pair of scissors(or maybe they made the outfits in the car before coming in), I just don't know. I may still be too cool for school. The same older man told me that this event happens always on the Friday after the 4th of July, that's how he remembers it.

On Saturday night we had a picnic with some more friends at the pool. I went to Target to pick up some yummy sandwich stuff for the picnic and of course some more pillows. Target always gets me with the pillows. I already posted this photo on Facebook but I thought I would put it on the blog too. Annalisa's style is all her own. She seldom wears shorts or pants, always skirts or dresses even still. Her favorite color is black. She asked for a side pony tail and then she put the hat on and had me tighten it. I love her confidence and creativity!

Crafty Girls

These girls love to paint, draw, color, craft, and do anything creative and artistic. As different as each of their interests are, it makes me happy when they find something they like to do together. We got these little kits at Joanne's for $6. Isabella and Annalisa picked paint your own puppy and kitty fuzzy bobble-heads. Daisy picked a paint your own tiny tea set.
